Not your typical craft blog!
Hey y’all—my name is Michelle Kim Lu and I love to craft. From sewing to yarn hangings to wood burning, it all makes me smile. I always venture out and try different crafts. Craft is not just a hobby to me, but craft is a passion and gift that God put in my heart.
After discerning out of the convent in 2017 (yes, I was a nun!), I prayed a lot about what God wanted me to do. I applied to many jobs in ministry, but was sadly turned down. Then, in prayer one day, I wrote down, “You don’t have to work for God, in order to be working for Him.” This gave me a sense of peace because I felt like I still had to work in the church to be fulfilling His mission. And though, my day job is working at a high school, I could not escape my passion for crafting. Like St. Catherine of Siena said, “Be who God meant you to be and you will set the world on fire.”
I have considered in the past to open an Etsy shop, but I never found one thing I felt particularly called to sell. Then, I started hosting craft nights at my house as a fun way to make friends and build relationships. I loved the idea of gathering together and making something pretty! I came to the realization that craft parties was my one thing!
I started 18.20 Crafts with the intention of building community and making beautiful things together. The name is from Matthew 18:20, “For where there are two or three gathered in My Name, I am with them.”
So what’s this blog going to be about? It’s not your ‘how to…’ DIY blog. (You should come to one of my workshops if you want that. Shameless plug!) Being a Christian, while I craft, God often delivers a mediation point and let's be real, a life lesson. In this blog, I hope to share my reflections on crafts. God has blessed me with these gifts, knowing that it is from Him and not my own, I want to share these gifts with you all. In this way, I can pray, “I am the handmaid of the Lord, let it be done unto me according to Thy will.” –Luke 1:38
